I'm a big fan of the Game Boy and also old cartoons, so this was a natural fit for me. The game is a cross between Road Rash and Mario Kart, where you zoom through different locations picking up speed boosts and weapons and shooting the other drivers. Whenever you see that a game is developed by Fernando Velez and Guillaume Dubail, you know it's going to be technically amazing. Wacky Races is no exception, the graphic effects are incredible compared to other racing games for the GBC. The road looks almost like the "mode 7" effects found in 16 bit systems, and the roadside obstacles and character sprites scale smoothly as you pass them on the road. The characters are well drawn and the backgrounds are colorful and really add to the cartoon atmosphere. The music is fun and bouncy, it sounds like it was made on a Commodore 64. The bad side of the game is that it can become repetitive once you play it for a while, and the different cars sort of feel the same. There also isn't much variation in the driving, you basically wind along a long straight road, hitting the same few curves over and over again just like in Road Rash. Overall I find it to be a lot of fun, with colorful, fast and addictive driving action.Read full review
This is one of the rarest of rarest NES games, and as seems to be the case, a very hard to find GBC game as well...the games are kinda rough nowadays, but they were very ahead of their time and no one seemed to buy the Game Boy Color...some great games though...enjoy!
It very simple and very monotomo, I play the game just 2 times and that it. I bouth because I get use to see the cartoon en tv and thought that it will be very fun, but I was not bit deal for me.
